There’s a better outlook in the Restaurant biz.

I saw some news today that I must post to encourage you. There are signs that things are improving in the restaurant world. Customers are returning.

Sara Lockyer reports on Nation’s Restaurant News in Restaurant results show consumers dining out again:

First-quarter reports from public restaurant companies rolled in this week and have highlighted a long-awaited return of guest traffic after nearly two years of eateries losing customers who have been reluctant to spend.

Moody’s Investors Service on Tuesday upgraded its rating on the U.S. restaurant industry to stable from negative, saying the fundamental credit conditions in the sector are unlikely to change materially over the next year to year and a half.

Moody’s said the industry as a whole has been successful at reducing costs in response to weak consumer spending – such as closing weak restaurants, scaling back growth and refurbishing existing restaurants with a greater focus on earnings.

Restaurant chains step up social media strategies:

Mike Friedman, director of interactive services for Darden Restaurants, told the Miami Herald that the company relies on a variety of its employees to manage its social media efforts. Whoever the person behind the profile may be, however, he or she must be passionate about the brand and about reaching out to guests through social media, he said.
